DONKEYS AND GREAT PYRENEES AS GUARDS
Donkeys are attentive and careful guards. They are awake most of the night and stay very near the sheep. They are not aggressive towards the sheep and are careful with the lambs. I have never lost a sheep or a lamb due to negligence on the donkey's part. In fact, I have never lost a sheep to a predator.
Here is a picture of our donkey. His name is Donkey I know, real orginial!
Great Pyrenees Dogs when raised with sheep, goats or poultry become very attached to the flock. They feel part of the flock. If you try to remove one, they become very agitated and you literally have to drag them out. Pyrenees are nocturnal and will periodically make rounds through the night. Some dogs are better about going around the fence lines (perimeter dogs we call them). Some dogs prefer to stay closer to the sheep, but will always make several rounds a night. They bark at everything that moves and will kill anything that steps a toenail in the pasture that does not belong there. We even have to make sure a neighboring friendly dog stays clear, or, well you know. They team well with the donkey too.
We periodically have Puppies For Sale. We do not ship though. Pick up would have to be local.
